About The Band
- The Southern Sounds Jazzmen
- The band was started in January 2003 by Jeff Matthews. Over that time we have established a regular line-up of experienced musicians. Our instrumentation is: Trumpet, Trombone, Clarinet/Saxes, Piano, Banjo/Guitar, Double bass, Drums. Our style is 'Dixieland/Chicago' for want of a better description. We play many of the traditional New Orleans tunes in that style, popular 'Trad' numbers, and 'Swing' favourites. We do not aim to emulate anyone or any particular band but rather feel that it is the particular members that determine the 'sound' a band makes. We like a swinging, relaxed, fun style.
